The 2022 Session of the Kentucky General Assembly will be busy with a budget and possibly legislative re-districting—and that’s not even considering any actions that may need to be taken regarding where Kentucky will be in the pandemic.
A legislative calendar approved by House Speaker David Osborne and Senate President Robert Stivers was released Monday and it shows the first day of the 60-day session as January 4 and the final day on April 14.
State Representative Myron Dossett says it’s possible lawmakers won’t have to wait until January to pass meaningful legislation, as Governor Andy Beshear could call a special session in the coming weeks to address re-districting.
The Pembroke Republican serves on the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee that begins the budget-making process. He says the final spending plan will fully-fund the pension systems and he hopes it will include pay raises for state employees.
The last day to file a new House Bill is February 28 and the last day in the Senate is March 2.
The veto recess begins March 31 and then legislators will return April 13 for two more days to override any of Governor Andy Beshear’s vetoes and to possibly pass additional last-minute legislation.
