Historic Todd County, Inc. is accepting items to put into time capsule

Historic Todd County, Inc. is putting out a reminder to non-profits, including governmental, civic and religious organizations, to contribute items for the time capsule that will be buried on October 23.

According to a news release, after the capsule is buried, it won’t be unearthed until 2070, the date marking Todd County’s 250th year of existence. The time capsule will be buried on the lawn of the Todd County Welcome Center located at the 1835 Courthouse on the Public Square in Elkton.

A similar capsule was opened recently as part of anniversary celebrations, and several unique items representative of the 1970s including a Sears & Roebuck catalog, a TCCHS yearbook, letters from dignitaries, including Kentucky Gov. Louis Nunn and U.S. President Richard Nixon, and a Todd County phonebook.

Special envelopes and a list of criteria are available to the public at the Welcome Center.  The deadline for receiving items has been extended to Oct. 20.
