EDC director discusses potential new meat processing plant

South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council Executive Director Carter Hendricks says an American family-owned meat processing company is indeed considering Christian County for a large plant, but he’s confident fears that have caused a group in Pembroke to schedule a public meeting would not come to fruition.

Without naming the prospective company due to confidentiality agreements, Hendricks says the proposed 500,000 square foot facility could create 1,300 good-paying jobs with benefits at Commerce Park #2 near John Rivers Road.

Hendricks says the investment would be big for the region, should the company choose Christian County.

He believes concerns over the large volume of cattle trucks traveling local roads—particularly KY 115—could be addressed with the proposed industrial connector that would take trucks from the industrial parks area to south of Pembroke on KY 115 to get them on I-24.

Hendricks says he and others involved in the local recruitment have traveled to other plants owned and operated by this company and he’s confident citizens around it wouldn’t be bothered by strong odors or other environmental issues.

As previously reported, there will be a community meeting Monday night at 6 at the old Pembroke gym, where the public can discuss any concerns or questions they may have about the proposed plant.

Hendricks says there’s no known timetable on when the company might make its decision on where to locate its new plant.
