‘Batter Capital of the World’ title could help pave way for more tourism

With the title ‘Batter Capital of the World’ comes all the perks and possible avenues for marketing and tourism expansion that comes with it to Hopkinsville.

Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Brooke Jung spoke with the Rotary Club of Hopkinsville Tuesday and bragged on the many industries that helped earn that title, including Hopkinsville Milling Company, Continental Mills and Siemer Milling.  Those industries create the product that goes on to become Cracker Barrell biscuit mix, Krusteaz products and much more.  Jung says this title will allow them to create more agriculture and culinary related tourism, as well as market that brand to the world.

She says they intend focus on shaping food tours around local fare, potentially create festivals with the batter theme behind them, and just bringing more people into the county.

It’s not just about the finished product though, as visitors could have a chance to celebrate the farmers that grow the crops that become those products.

Jung says Christian County is the leading wheat producing county in the state of Kentucky, supporting 46,200 acres of farmland that often produce over three million bushels of wheat each year.
