After being closed for nearly a year and a half due to renovations and then the pandemic, the ribbon was cut Monday morning for the newly re-opened L&R Soda Fountain on the Elkton Public Square.
It was originally opened in Elkton in June of 2011 by Kenny and Heather Clayton in conjunction with the pharmacy business that they owned and operated at the time. It closed early last year for improvements and never reopened again due to the pandemic.
There was a ‘soft opening’ over the weekend to allow proper training of staff and the full grand reopening was Monday, with General Manager Felix Diaz saying while the restaurant will still feature everything that made it so popular across the region, there will also be some new upgrades and options.
All profits generated by the L&R Soda Fountain will be retained by the Todd County Foundation for reinvestment into the community and Diaz says L&R will be focused on promoting Elkton and Todd County in as many ways as possible.
Eston Glover serves on the Todd County Foundation Board and thanked the Claytons for the opportunity to use profits from the popular attraction to fund projects that may not otherwise get done.
Todd County Chamber of Commerce President Tiffany Groves was also on hand to help cut the ribbon, as were other local elected officials, citizens and members of the Todd County Foundation board.
