Beshear annoucnes $1 million winner, talks Delta variant

Governor Andy Beshear announced Kentucky’s newest millionaire through the “Shot at a Million” vaccine incentive program Friday and gave the latest information on the Delta variant of COVID-19.

Ginger Shultz of Louisville won the $1 million by just getting vaccinated and then signing up for the drawing at shotatamillion.ky.gov.

Five teenagers were also awarded full ride scholarships to a state university through the drawing, with none of those from Western Kentucky.

Governor Beshear cited new information from the CDC that shows just how much more transmissible the new variant is than other strains of the virus.

The governor says Kentucky would be in a better place to combat the Delta variant if more folks were vaccinated.

The new CDC information also indicates breakthrough cases—vaccinated individuals who get the Delta variant, are able to still spread the virus, though they are much less likely to become severely ill or die.
