Grand jury to hear child abuse cases

A Christian County Grand Jury will soon hear the child abuse cases against three suspects accused of injuring two small children with a wooden spoon.

Twenty-seven-year-old Donnie Freeman appeared with public defender Munroe Graham and 25-year-old Jessica Maddux with private attorney Jason Holland.

Each waived their preliminary hearing and Judge Foster Cotthoff sent their cases to the Christian County Grand Jury for consideration and possible indictment.

Meanwhile, Sands Chewning represents 22-year-old Courtney Harper and he waived formal arraignment and the preliminary hearing, meaning the grand jury will also hear that case.

Hopkinsville police say the three suspects had an arrangement to discipline the five and six-year-old children by hitting them with spoons.

The warrant says photos were taken of very severe bruising on both of the children’s buttocks and legs.

All three suspects are charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a child under the age of 12.
