Mental assessment ordered for suspect in church bus sex abuse case prior to possible plea deal

The man accused of sexually abusing a girl on a church bus on Easter Sunday in 2019 is reportedly prepared to enter a guilty plea as part of a deal, but there will first have to be a mental assessment completed.

Trial had been set for Monday morning for Tyler Frances, but Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling and defense counsel Sands Chewning told Judge John Atkins they’ve agreed to a mental evaluation prior to a plea deal.

Judge Atkins agreed to set another hearing for September 8, when Frances could accept the deal.

Investigation by Hopkinsville police led to the first-degree sexual abuse charge after the alleged victim said Frances ripped off her underwear and inappropriately touched her while both were riding the church bus.
