A boating accident on Kentucky Lake in Trigg County Saturday afternoon claimed the life of an Illinois man.
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife is investigating and says 69-year old Charles Poettker of O’Fallon, Illinois disappeared after he jumped into the water from the rear swim platform of a 47-foot Sedan Bridge boat that was anchored at the time.
The incident happened about 3 p.m. in the Sugar Bay area of the lake and a witness said he was not wearing a life jacket.
Divers recovered Poettker’s body shortly after 5:30 p.m. and an autopsy will be performed at the Western Kentucky Regional Medical Examiner’s Office in Madisonville.
First responder agencies from Trigg, Livingston and Marshall counties assisted at the scene.
