Hopkinsville is a Top 10 Finalist for a T-Mobile “tech makeover” for the city.
T-Mobile officials say the winning community will receive 5G network enhancements, a $200,000 grant, a free concert featuring multi-platinum duo Florida Georgia Line, a refurbished Little League field and other tech goods and services.
Mayor Wendell Lynch took to Facebook Live and said the city is excited to be named a finalist.
Kieran Holloway with T-Mobile says it’s a great program for communities like Hopkinsville and they’re glad to be here.
Mayor Lynch and Holloway were at Whistlestop Donuts handing out 6,000 free donuts for as long as supplies lasted.
T-Mobile and Smart Growth America will determine a winner later this summer based on project feasibility, the need for a network upgrade and the town leadership’s interest and engagement.
The nine other finalists each get $50,000 to help jump-start or complete a project in their community.
Hopkinsville is the only Kentucky town among the finalists, with Tennessee not represented on the list.
