Kentucky’s state employees haven’t received a significant pay raise in several years and lawmakers are working on a plan that could change that in the coming budget cycle.
The Interim Appropriations and Revenue Committee heard from the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet about the classification and compensation system for evaluating executive branch job requirements last week.
Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke says lawmakers want to work with the governor’s office to do the best they can for state employees, who have gone without a raise for too long.
He says the pay rates for veteran employees aren’t always where they should be when compared to new hires.
Representative Jason Petrie of Elkton says approaching the issue of pay with a generic one percent raise is an insufficient and inadequate approach given the complexity of the issue.
