Todd Fiscal Court gives final approval to broadband expansion contract

Todd Fiscal Court gave unanimous final approval Friday morning to a contract with Pennyrile Electric and Hopkinsville Electric System to expand fiber broadband internet access into rural parts of the county.

Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield notes that while the initial investment from the county is $2.8 million in COVID relief funds, he’s hopeful additional funds will arrive in the coming months.

He’s also optimistic the county’s money will go further than what’s been estimated.

Christian and Trigg Fiscal Court have already approved a similar contract with Pennyrile and HES.

A sublease agreement was approved with the Todd County Board of Education to operate the tech center on the campus of Todd Central High School and Judge Mansfield says he’s excited about the programming planned by the district for the upcoming school eyar.

Todd County Coroner Timothy Wells had been pursuing the purchase of a new two-drawer cooler for approximately $10,500, but recently found a used option for $1,500 at an area business and he was given approval to go forward with that purchase if it’s found to be in good working order.

Fiscal Court approved the installation of rumble strips to slow motorists down on Collier Springs Road, but did not agree to install speed bumps.
