Local leaders speak at State of Community Breakfast

A large crowd gathered in the James E. Bruce Convention Center for the first Chamber of Commerce Eye Opener Breakfast since the beginning of the pandemic Tuesday morning as local leaders spoke about the state of the community.

Christian County Emergency Management Director Randy Graham spoke on behalf of county government and said they’re excited about the recently approved partnership with Pennyrile Electric and Hopkinsville Electric System to expand fiber broadband to nearly every home and business over the next few years.

Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch highlighted improvements downtown over the last decade, saying many were assisted with incentives from the city.

He invited the community to a Unity Summit on Saturday, July 31 at 8:30 a.m. at Christian County Middle School.

Oak Grove Mayor Theresa Jarvis noted that tourism is strong with the return of events and opening of Oak Grove Racing, Gaming and Hotel and believes the city’s police department is stronger than ever.

Taylor Hayes gave a brief presentation on Community Vision Plan 2030, saying input received from the public showed a desire for improvement in quality of life for the people of Christian County.
