The Hopkinsville-Christian County Imagination Library is bringing the community a 60 Days of Reading event provided by The Save the Children Foundation.
According to a news release, the Save the Children Foundation provided grant funding to the Imagination Library to create a reading challenge for Christian county residents by providing resources, tools, and funding to bring this local reading challenge to the youth of Christian County as a fun way to encourage reading all summer long. The agencies are challenging local children, ages birth to five-years old, to read at least 20 minutes every day from July 1 until September 6.
The Imagination Library will host Summer Story time every Friday from July 16 until September 3 at the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library. Reading logs may be turned in anytime, but all logs must be completed by Tuesday, September 7 and reading logs can be printed out from the Imagination Library’s Facebook page. All participants who complete a log sheet will receive a participation gift and all participants who log 100 minutes or more during the challenge will be recognized on the Imagination Library “Wall” of Fame at the public library.
Reading at least 20 minutes a day can greatly improve vocabulary, spelling and prevent learning loss, which officials say is more important than ever due to the amount of school closures and delays from the COVID-19 pandemic.
