Mayor Lynch names members of Non-Partisan Elections Citizens Committee

When Hopkinsville City Council meets Tuesday night, Mayor Wendell Lynch will present an executive order appointing the 12 members of the Non-Partisan Elections Citizens Committee that will examine the pro’s and con’s of transitioning to non-partisan city elections.

The committee will be chaired by Rich Maddux and also includes former councilman Darvin Adams, former mayor Dan Kemp, Campbell Strong Defense Alliance Executive Director Kelli Pendleton, Christian County School Board member Tiffany Mumford Brame and the Rev. Perry Greenwade.

Nancy Askew, Andra Gold, Faye Hendricks, Rose Jackson, Diane Wood and Shannon Worden will also serve on the committee.

They will study non-partisan elections, educate the public about the available options and determine if the change would disproportionately affect minority communities.

Council approved non-partisan local elections while maintaining the 12-ward structure last year, but Mayor Lynch vetoed the ordinance to allow more time for studies and community education.
