International Festival cancelled, virtual plans underway

The Hopkinsville International Festival has been cancelled for 2021, with plans for a virtual showcase in the works.

According to a news release, that decision comes after reviewing COVID-19 trends and safety guidelines with health officials. While the International Festival won’t be rescheduled in 2021, organizers do plan to film a brief, socially-distanced video overview that will provide event supporters an opportunity to virtually experience a part of the festival that celebrates the numerous cultures that call Hopkinsville home.  Details about the virtual showing will be released in the near future.

Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman says, “A year ago, we hoped by now that we’d be in a position to bring back I-Fest for a grand return, but it’s just not in the cards. This unique event brings together approximately 4,000 attendees over two days, and includes representatives, performers and vendors from a wonderful variety of different countries. As special as the event is, we agree with our public health and safety professionals that minimizing the risk for spreading the virus at an event of this size is the appropriate action.”
