Christian Fiscal Court hears update from health department

Christian Fiscal Court heard an update from the health department during its first meeting of 2021.

Public Health Director Kayla Bebout says last week had a record number of new coronavirus cases and she attributed the spike to holiday gatherings.

The health department has begun their vaccination clinic at the Bruce Convention Center. It follows state guidance on who should receive the shots first, all vaccinations are by appointment and Bebout says they’re working to get educators vaccinated this week.

There is an online portal on the Christian County Health Department website for individuals 70 or older to express interest in being vaccinated, though they are first working through the 1,300 people who have already signed up.

Magistrates approved an agreement with the Hopkinsville Industrial Foundation to reimburse a portion of interest payments on the new spec building that’s under construction—with John Crenshaw saying that money will be reimbursed back to the county when the facility is sold.

Fiscal Court approved a budget for the Christian County Sheriff’s Office that Sheriff Tyler DeArmond says is very similar to last year.

Judge-Executive Steve Tribble also announced the retirement of budget officer Kelly Finley and the promotion of Misty Glover to that position.
