Two sentenced to prison for 2019 Hopkinsville carjacking, officer shooting incident

Keith Kuzyk of Clarksville will serve 18 years in prison for his role in the in February 18, 2019 Hopkinsville carjacking that resulted in the shooting of Hopkinsville Police Officer Jeremy Davidson.

According to a news release from United States Attorney Russell Coleman, Kuzyk pled guilty to carjacking, use and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence, and being a felon in possession of a firearm, on August 20, in United States District Court. Kuzyk admitted to taking a 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe in Christian County by force, violence, and intimidation, with the intent to cause death and serious bodily harm to four identified victims. He also reportedly admitted to using a firearm during commission of the carjacking.

That carjacking led to the vehicle pursuit that would result in Officer Davidson being shot in the arm and head at a location on North Drive near Sanderson Drive—Officer Davidson has since recovered from his injuries and returned to the force.

Kuzyk’s co-defendant, Anthony Johnson of Clarksville, to 84 months imprisonment, followed by three years’ supervised release after pleading guilty to carjacking, aiding and abetting, and the use, carry, and brandish of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. There is no possibility of parole in the federal system.

U.S. Attorney Russell Coleman says, “When you put families and our law enforcement at risk though armed carjacking and shooting at a police officer, then be prepared to face decades in federal prison. This lawlessness will not be tolerated in the Western District of Kentucky.”
