Todd health director feels comfortable with schools continuing in-person learning

For a second consecutive day, Todd County on Saturday reported its highest one-day total of new COVID-19 cases, but cases related to the county’s schools continue to be manageable.

Public Health Director Jen Harris reported nine new cases—seven adults and two minors.

Eight of the new patients are isolating at home and one adult with underlying health conditions is hospitalized with moderate to severe symptoms. Another adult with underlying health conditions is asymptomatic at home and most of the new cases are experiencing mild symptoms.

At least 193 of Todd County’s 234 cases have recovered, 28 are healing at home, five are hospitalized and there have been eight deaths.

Harris says there are currently only eight confirmed cases of students, faculty or staff members related to the Todd County School System and 25 individuals are quarantined.

She says with the information she has, she feels comfortable that Todd County Schools can continue with in-person instruction as students return from Fall Break Monday.

Washing your hands and wearing a mask continue to be key to preventing spread of the virus.

Harris noted that some of those students in quarantine in the school system have been learning virtually and have not been in a school building.
