Eighth District state Representative Walker Thomas and Democratic challenger Pam Dossett faced off Tuesday afternoon in a League of Women Voters debate.

Regarding the COVID-19 health guidelines that prevented a crowd from attending the forum, Dossett says she’d like to see more leaders at the forefront of encouraging Kentuckians to wear masks and to take other steps to prevent spread of the virus.

Representative Thomas says he fears some of the restrictions are making the cure worse than the disease.

Asked about increasing the minimum wage, Representative Thomas says that figure is an arbitrary number and believes the market sets fair wages.

Dossett isn’t sure about an immediate increase to $15, but says she’d be open to incremental increases over a period of time.

Dossett says she wants to see a restructuring of the tax code to make it fair for all earners and Representative Thomas noted his support of pro-life legislation.

Several Hopkinsville City Council races were also featured in debates Tuesday and we’ll feature those in news stories in the coming days.
