Sanctuary, Inc. celebrating new therapy garden

Sanctuary, Inc. is continuing its mission to serve those in need in the community, and they’re celebrating the addition of a therapy garden on the agency’s campus.

The garden is host to numerous flowers, shrubs and more, and when the time comes, it will also be a source of vegetables and other foods to benefit both Sanctuary and Aaron McNeil House. Executive Director Heather Lancaster says it’s about more than just the food though—the garden offers multiple mental health benefits and encourages healing.

Sanctuary clients will be able to maintain the garden, and it’s designed to be tended by everyone, even those who have trouble with mobility.

There will be a ribbon cutting held Thursday, but due to the nature of Sanctuary’s clientele and to protect them, the event is not open to the public. The search for funding for the therapy garden began in the spring, and grants were provided through the Kentucky Association of Sexual Assault Programs and the Kentucky Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

Sanctuary serves the nine county Pennyrile region, and provides a place of safety and comfort for victims of domestic abuse and their children, while offering advocacy and assistance.
