The NFL has updated its COVID-19 protocol to minimize the likelihood of false positives. If an individual tests positive, they’ll be given two more tests followed by a nasal swab and a point-of-care test. They must quarantine while awaiting the additional test results but may be cleared the same day if both come back negative.
The update comes after a New Jersey lab reported 77 false positives two weeks ago where players had to quarantine for at least 24 hours. As the season approaches, the concern is that players will have to sit out for no reason.
