Man flown to Vanderbilt hospital after crashing stolen truck

A man was flown to a Nashville hospital after crashing a stolen vehicle Tuesday in Hopkinsville.

It happened about 5:20 p.m. and the collision report from Hopkinsville police says 34-year old Michael Prater drove into the wrong lane on East Seventh Street in an attempt to pass multiple vehicles at the stop sign at Liberty Street.

He collided with a pickup driven by 55-year old Jaqueline Potter of Clarksville, who was attempting to turn left from Seventh onto Liberty. The vehicle Prater was driving continued until it struck and knocked over a utility pole.

Prater fled the scene on foot and went to a local business. EMS transported him from there to Jennie Stuart Medical Center and he was later flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

A computer check showed the pickup Prater was driving to be reported stolen in Florida. Charges against Prater are pending.
