A Fort Campbell soldier drowned Sunday on Lake Barkley.
Stewart County Emergency Management says the 18-year old male swung from the Fort Donelson rope swing into Hickman Creek and struggled to stay afloat. Another soldier dove into the water, but was unsuccessful in an attempt to rescue him.
Multiple agencies and soldiers from Fort Campbell assisted in the recovery effort and the victim’s body was pulled from the water about 7 a.m. Monday.
The victim’s name has not been released.
