Kentucky had its largest number of new COVID-19 cases this week Friday, but it’s too soon to say if that number is meaningful or just an influx of test results during a holiday week.
There were 283 new cases from Thursday to Friday, bringing the overall total to 9,464. While that 283 number could look like a spike, Governor Andy Beshear says the average over the last several days has still been flat and he’ll wait for data over the next few days to see if it means anything.
Another nine Kentuckians have died from the virus, making the total lost since the pandemic began 418.
Governor Beshear says it’s too soon to say if there’s a possibility for any outdoor festivals to be possible late this summer, but weddings and other outdoor gatherings with crowds of 50 or less can become possible in July if all continues as planned.
The governor says his afternoon briefings will move to 3 p.m. next week and will go from Monday through Thursday.
Tennessee gained 406 cases to 22,085 and had another four deaths. Montgomery County is up one to 262 cases, Robertson is up eight to 229 and Stewart County remains at 11 cases.
