An Illinois man was arrested by Kentucky State Police following a pursuit through multiple counties Monday.

According to a news release, state troopers were patrolling in the area of the 31 mile marker of I-24 in Livingston County when a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed was observed.  A traffic stop was initiated, but the driver of the vehicle reportedly accelerated, swerving in and out of traffic in an attempt to flee.  While the pursuit moved through Lyon County, a handgun was allegedly thrown from the vehicle and was later found.

In McCracken County, near the 11 mile marker of I-24, a tire deflation device was successful but the vehicle continued.  The driver allegedly swerved towards a trooper, striking the cruiser, and KSP was able to use a successful pit maneuver, and brought the pursuit to a stop near the nine-mile marker.

The driver of the vehicle, 23-year old Michael Green of Mounds, Illinois was taken into custody and charged with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer, three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, DUI, four counts of fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and multiple traffic violations.  He was lodged in the McCracken County Jail.

KSP was assisted by multiple law enforcement agencies throughout the pursuit.
