Airgas evacuated after 1,000 lbs of anhydrous ammonia leaks

Airgas in Hopkinsville had to be evacuated Wednesday morning due to a gas leak.

Hopkinsville Fire Department Captain Michael Pendleton says the leak was related to a plumbing issue at the plant on Pembroke Road and that no one was injured.

Approximately 1,000 lbs. of anhydrous ammonia leaked into the facility. Captain Pendleton says it was unclear how long Airgas would be closed by the leak.

Commonwealth Agri-Energy briefly evacuated as a precaution, but they soon got back up and running.
