Man arrested in Greenville following hit and run, pursuit

A hit and run collision Wednesday in Greenville led to a pursuit and an arrest.

Greenville police were notified of the hit and run near Backyard Smokehouse on North Main Street just after noon and officers soon located the pickup that fled the scene. A traffic stop was attempted, but police say 43-year old Barry Gary of Drakesboro drove away as the officer approached his vehicle.

Gary allegedly passed several vehicles in no-passing zones until his path was blocked at Paradise and East Main Cross.

Further investigation determined Gary had struck a parked Powderly police cruiser prior to the hit and run that prompted the call.

Gary was arrested and charged with aggravated DUI, fleeing or evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident and several other charges.

Central City and Powderly police assisted in the pursuit.
