Gov says 12 associated with Western State have COVID-19, three hospitalized

There have been 14 additional deaths in Kentucky from COVID-19 and 12 people associated with Western State Hospital in Hopkinsville are fighting the virus.

Governor Andy Beshear said nine residents and three staff members at Western State have tested positive and three of those individuals are hospitalized at Jennie Stuart Medical Center.

He says Western State is no longer accepting new patients during the pandemic.

Governor Beshear reported 53 new cases across the state from Sunday to Monday, bringing the overall total to 1,008. He says while it’s encouraging to have back to back days with relatively low numbers of new cases, he wants to see a few more days of data before reading too much into it.

The sad news was the 14 deaths—the highest total announced for a single day since the pandemic began.

Governor Beshear announced that cabins at state resort parks are being used for first responders who need to quarantine.

He says agencies and medical professionals still need personal protective equipment and the number to call if you have items to donate is 833-GIVE-PPE.

Tennessee has risen to 3,802 cases and 65 deaths. Montgomery County has 54 cases, Robertson is 60 and Stewart has two.
