Hopkinsville parks close in face of COVID-19

The Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department is abiding by orders set down by Governor Andy Beshear, which means the majority of parks are closed to the public.

Superintendent Tab Brockman says the only things open at this time are the Greenway System, the walking trail at Tie Breaker Park and the Hopkinsville Dog Park—all other parks, particularly those with playground equipment are closed.

He says that’s in an effort to keep large crowds of people from congregating and therefore maintain good social distancing practices to keep COVID-19 from spreading.  Brockman says you’re more than welcome to get out and get some sunshine, but for now, it needs to be at a distance from others.

All public restrooms are closed as well.  He says it hurts to ask people to stay away for now, but the Parks and Recreation Department is intent to help the community stay healthy—and hopefully, things will get back to normal sooner rather than later.
