Madisonville REAL ID regional office opens

Residents of the area needing a REAL ID to get onto Fort Campbell or to fly on a commercial airliner when the enhanced federal identification law takes effect can now go to the regional office in Madisonville.

Kentucky residents may visit the KYTC REAL ID Regional Driver’s Licensing Office at 56 Federal Place in Madisonville from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Applicants will receive a temporary 30-day document that serves as a driving credential until the permanent card arrives in the mail at the applicant’s residence.

To obtain a REAL ID you will need one proof of identity such as a birth certificate or passport. You’ll also need proof of social security number such as a social security card or a W2 statement.

Applicants also need two proofs of address such as your current driver’s license and a utility bill from sometime in the last 61 days.

The cost of a four-year REAL ID license is $24 and $48 for an eight-year REAL ID license. You must use a credit or debit card to make payment as cash and checks are not accepted, according to a news release.

If you choose to continue using your old driver’s license, you’ll need a passport or military ID to get on Fort Campbell or onto commercial planes come October 1.
