The woman accused of using a pillow to smother a man to death at his home on West Shelby Avenue in Elkton in September appeared with her co-defendant in Todd Circuit Court Wednesday morning.
Thirty-one-year-old Krystie Chancey is indicted for murder, several counts of receiving stolen property and theft and for being a persistent felony offender. Kentucky State Police allege that Chancey smothered 61-year old Ted Allan Thompson to death and then used the assistance of 25-year old Russell Walker to steal property from inside the home and Thompson’s car.
Walker is also charged with multiple counts of theft and receiving stolen property, but is not charged in the death of Thompson.
State police initially said Thompson may have died from natural causes following an autopsy, but that changed after the suspects were arrested about a month and a half later in Tennessee and both were interviewed.
Defense attorney David Graff asked Commonwealth’s Attorney Neil Kerr if there were any new reports or evidence to turn over from the medical examiner and Kerr says the examiner is still reviewing their own report along with statements made by Walker regarding Thompson’s manner of death to see if they are consistent.
Both suspects were given future court dates for hearings, with Judge Joe Hendricks noting Walker will soon be going to the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center for an evaluation.
Chancey and Walker are both lodged in the Todd County Jail.
