The Cincinnati Reds announced they have reached a contract agreement with Japanese outfielder Shogo Akiyama. Japanese news outlets said Monday that Akiyama had signed a three-year deal worth between 15-million and 20-million dollars. In nine season with the Seibu Lions, Akiyama batted 301 with an average of 23 home runs a year and is expected to take one of the corner outfield spots for the Reds along with backing up center fielder Nick Senzel. Akiyama is the first-ever Japanese-born player to sign with Cincinnati.
