Bicyclist struck by vehicle on Canton Street dies

The bicyclist that was struck by a vehicle on Canton Street near the bowling alley on Christmas Eve has died from his injuries.

That’s according to the Hopkinsville Police Department report, which states that on Tuesday evening, a bicycle operated by 66-year old James Victor of Hopkinsville was heading west on Canton when he was struck in the rear by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, 91-year old Wade Stinson of Hopkinsville, told officers he had been trying to turn left onto Canton from Henderson Street and had attempted to leave Victor enough room.

Witnesses at the scene stated they saw Stinson trying to come around the bicycle and did not leave enough space, striking Victor and causing him to flip off of the bike. Victor was transported via helicopter to a Nashville hospital for severe head trauma and on Christmas Day, Hopkinsville police were notified that Victor had passed away due to his injuries.

Stinson was not injured in the incident.
