Thanksgiving weekend has traditionally been a deadly time on roads across the country and Kentucky State Police and other law enforcement agencies will be stepping up patrols to hopefully make traveling safer.
Trooper Corey King says the Thanksgiving travel period puts thousands of extra vehicles on the roads.
He says extra troopers will be out working overtime to stop and arrest anyone driving impaired and to cite distracted drivers.
The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety said 659 people had died on Kentucky roads as of Thursday of last week, 10 ahead of last year’s pace. Officials say 265 of those victims were not wearing seat belts.
