Snow arrived as forecasted last night and brought slick road conditions and school closings.

Christian, Todd, Trigg, Caldwell, Hopkins, Lyon, Logan,  Muhlenberg, Stewart and Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools are closed today, in addition to all campuses of Hopkinsville Community College, the Murray State Hopkinsville campus, Heritage Christian Academy, Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School and Dawson Springs Independent Schools.  University Heights Academy is on a two-hour delay.

Christian County ECC reported slick conditions on portions of I-24, especially the farther west you go toward the Trigg County line. There are also slick spots on the Pennyrile Parkway and most county roads remain slick and hazardous, according to the Christian County Sheriff’s Department.

Meanwhile, Hopkinsville Police. Sgt. Martin Lopez reported many streets to be slick and snow-covered and urged anyone who has to get out this morning to slow down and allow some extra time to reach their destinations.

Dispatchers in Todd and Trigg County reported very few accidents overnight, but noted there wasn’t much traffic. Many roads across the region are likely to be slick and snow-covered until state, city or county road crews can get to them today.

Abundant sunshine may aid in a little natural melting today, but the high temperature is only forecast to make it to the mid-20’s. Anything that does melt is likely to refreeze again tonight with a low back into the lower teens.

One to two inches of snow accumulation was reported to the National Weather Service from across western Kentucky, with the highest amounts of just over two inches recorded in the Fairdealing area of Marshall County.
