With colder temperatures moving into the area and the possibility of wintry weather on its way, Kentucky State Police is reminding motorists to use appropriate caution while driving.
According to a news release, drivers need to be prepared to meet the challenges of driving in adverse weather conditions. State police advise drivers to plan ahead make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained and ensure vehicles are maintained to handle not only the road conditions but frigid temperatures as well. The best advice is to avoid unnecessary travel when winter weather is in your area. But if one must go out, they gave some tips on how to drive safely in hazardous conditions.
They say to be aware of weather conditions before driving, allow more time for traveling than you might normally, increase distance between other vehicles, and use extreme caution on bridges and over passes. KSP says to be prepared by making sure the gas tank is full, keep a cellphone charger and a blanket in the vehicle and not use cruise control in icy condition. Move over or slow down for anyone else stranded or otherwise setting alongside the roadway.
