Light snow, very cold temps expected Monday evening

Western Kentucky’s first light snow event of the season could come Monday night.

The National Weather Service in Paducah says rain will change over to snow as a cold front plows across the region during the evening hours. Ground and pavement temperatures above freezing could prevent much in the way of accumulations, but a dusting to an inch is possible.

Forecasters also say there could be some flash-freezing of pavement in some places—especially on elevated surfaces—so motorists will want to be extra cautious on roads Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Bitter cold will follow the precipitation, with gusty winds to bring wind chills in the single digits Monday night and Tuesday morning.

The high temperature isn’t expected to get above the freezing mark on Tuesday.
