Saturday’s severe storm that plowed through Christian and Todd counties with wind gusts of up to 75 mph knocked out power to thousands of people in the region and it has taken a team effort to restore service as quickly as possible.
About 1,800 Pennyrile Electric members were still without power, as of about 11:30 a.m.
Brent Gilkey with Pennyrile Electric says they’ve received backup from cooperatives from across western Kentucky to make as much progress as possible while maintaining safety standards.
He noted the storm came without much warning and did as much damage to the electric infrastructure as any other event in recent years.
Gilkey says the linemen have been shown gratitude for their efforts by many in the community and they appreciate it.
Over 14,000 Pennyrile members were without power just after the storm Saturday. The Oak Grove, Pembroke and Trenton areas were hit the hardest with damage and power outages.
