Hopkinsville Transit celebrates success, plans for future

The Rotary Club of Hopkinsville heard from the Hopkinsville Transit System at Tuesday’s meeting and what the plans are for the future of the public service.

Nikki Durham with the City of Hopkinsville says the Transit System has been a tremendous success and has helped make a difference in the lives of many citizens of Hopkinsville.  The service has been running since 2015 and Durham says it has expanded and grown in that time—thanks to partnerships both locally and with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

Since its launch, bus stop shelters have been built, more routes have been added and more buses purchased to meet the demand.  Durham says in the future, they hope to not only expand their routes, but also to expand the times of service and create an app.

She says also in the works is a conversation possibly creating a connection to the Clarksville public transit system, helping employees who live in Clarksville get to work, though more details need to be hammered out.  For more information on the system, including prices to ride and job opportunities, follow the Hopkinsville Transit System on Facebook or visit their website.
