Rothlisberger and Brees set for surgery following injuries in Sunday’s games

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced today quarterback Ben Rothlisberger is out for the season. Rothlisberger suffered an injury to his right elbow in Sunday’s 28-26 loss to Seattle. Coach Mike Tomlin said surgery would take place later this week. Mason Rudolph, selected in the 3rd round of the 2018 draft, will take over for Rothlisberger.

Meanwhile, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees will undergo surgery for a torn ligament on his throwing thumb and be out at least six weeks. The injury happened Sunday during a pass play in which his hand hit Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald. Brees has only missed one career start due to injury.
