Keeneland and Churchill downs have received approval for up to $1 million in tax incentives for the Oak Grove harness racing facility and gambling parlor.
That’s according to information on the Kentucky Economic Development website, which says approval was finalized through the Kentucky Enterprise Initiative Act program on Thursday.
Oak Grove Racing and Gaming is being constructed in two phases and harness racing is expected to begin this fall.
Once completed, the $179 million facility on Thompsonville Lane is expected to include the harness race course, a race-day paddock stable facility, 1,500 historical racing gaming machines, a 128-room hotel, a grandstand seating area, indoor event space, outdoor amphitheater and stage, and an equestrian center that will include a 30 pad RV park.
The project is expected to create 300 new jobs at an average of just under $18 per hour, according to information provided to Kentucky Economic Development.
