Local library offering texting service

The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library is now offering a texting service to keep up with events and offerings at that facility.

The library implemented a mobile alert system for patrons to receive information on July 11.  A news release says the mobile alert can be initiated by texting “HCCPL” to 57838 from any smart phone.  This alert is free, and individuals can opt in or out at any time.

Outreach Librarian Elysa Parks says, “Text messages allow us to communicate quickly and efficiently with patrons. Social media is a great way to keep up with patrons, but reminders for programs can get lost in the shuffle. We want everyone to have timely reminders for events they want to be a part of, so no one misses out.”

Officials say the local library has experienced a 75% increase in new library cards in the past year.  This increase in patrons and library programs has created the need for a communication tool that can be more readily accessed by the community.  The library averages between 30-40 programs a month for participants of all ages.

Executive Director DeeAnna Sova is quoted as saying,  “Attendance and participation continue to grow, and we are looking for the new opportunities to reach our customers.  We have programs for our youth and adults, including numerous book clubs, free movies twice a month, cooking and sewing classes that are planned, not to mention our upcoming Author Festival and the first HCCPL Hoptown Fanfest.”
