Excessive Heat Warning continues, Salvation Army has cooling station

Western Kentucky remains under an Excessive Heat Warning through 7 p.m. Sunday.

The Salvation Army in Hopkinsville has extended its soup kitchen hours Saturday and Sunday to be open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. as a cooling shelter for anyone who needs it. Lunch, cool drinks and snacks will be provided.

The National Weather Service in Paducah says the heat index will again reach 105 to 110 degrees, making conditions dangerous for anyone working outdoors.

Those who must spend time in the heat should drink plenty of fluids and take breaks in the shade or in an air conditioned building as often as possible.

Also be sure any outdoor pets have shelter from the sun and a constant supply of water.

Relief is in sight, as the National Weather Service says the high temperature Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be in the upper 70’s to low 80’s.
