Former HHS band director preliminary hearing delayed

The former Hopkinsville High School Band Director accused of third-degree rape and sodomy had his preliminary hearing continued to next Friday in Christian District Court Friday.

Jordan Seth Peveler appeared with defense attorney Sands Chewning before District Judge Foster Cotthoff. It was County Attorney John Soyars who requested the continuance, with the preliminary hearing reset for June 21 at 9 a.m.

By order of agreement, Judge Cotthoff reduced Peveler’s $10,000 bond to $7,500 and set a new condition that he is required to wear an ankle monitor at all times.

Peveler is currently out on bond while facing charges of third-degree rape, third-degree sodomy and unlawful transaction with a minor for incidents that are alleged to have occurred in 2017. Peveler allegedly provided marijuana to a 16-year old female band member at his home during the first incident and then had her perform a sex act on him after she was under the influence. In the second incident, Peveler allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse with the girl at his home after she had turned 17 years old.

The warrant notes that Peveler was in a position of authority or special trust over the alleged victim during each instance. A Kentucky State Police report alleges Peveler may have tried to groom a second victim and engaged in other inappropriate conduct.
