Hopkinsville police arrested a man early Sunday morning accused of stealing a Med Transit van.
Officers were called to a disturbance between 21-year old William Moore of Hopkinsville and another man on Crockett Street just before 2 a.m. and determined that Moore had left. A witness said Moore had claimed he’d stolen a Med Transit van and that he may have left in the vehicle.
It was located behind an East 23rd Street residence and Moore’s grandmother came to the door and said he wasn’t inside. She gave permission to search and Moore was reportedly found hiding in a closet.
An arrest citation says he admitted to stealing the van because “he didn’t know what else to do.”
Police say he moved his handcuffs to the front of his body inside the police cruiser and struggled with officers as they reapplied the cuffs.
He was charged with felony auto theft, resisting arrest and 3rd-degree attempted escape.
