Kentucky Court of Appeals Judge Shea Nickell is currently the only person on the ballot seeking western Kentucky’s seat on the state Supreme Court.
Justice David Buckingham of Calloway County was appointed to the seat following the retirement of Justice Bill Cunningham, but told WHOP News Friday he won’t be running.
Nickell, a Paducah resident, has spent the last 12 years on the Kentucky Court of Appeals and says running for the Supreme Court seems like a natural progression.
He says it’s been an honor to serve the people of western Kentucky and he’d continue to do so, if he’s elected to the Supreme Court.
The winner of the non-partisan November general election will serve out the remainder of Cunningham’s term through 2023.
