Elkton voters approve alcohol sales

There will be alcohol sales in Ekton in the near future after voters there chose to make the city wet Tuesday.

The final tally was 313-169 in favor of alcohol sales. Rhonda Werner of the Make Elkton Wet group that petitioned to put the question on the ballot says the people have spoken.

Elkton City Councilman Michael Case says he supported going wet because he believes it will pay off in economic development.

Mayor Arthur Green says he’s already been in contact with the Alcohol and Beverage Commission in Frankfort regarding the structure of future ordinances regarding alcohol sales.

He says state law dictates tax revenue from alcohol sales must be spent on public safety, but he believes Elkton will see an overall boost economically.

Trenton is now the only incorporated city in Todd County that does not allow alcohol sales.
