USPS ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive is Saturday

Mail carriers are asking Christian County residents to leave food by their mailboxes this coming Saturday, to help with the National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive.

Hopkinsville Postmaster Phil Brand spoke with WHOP and says this food drive has been happening going on 30 years and its collected 1.4 billion pounds of food to help those in need. He says to participate, just leave non-perishable food items in a bag by your mailbox, and your carrier will pick it up.

He says all the food collected locally will stay in the community, helping people here. Brand also says if everyone who is able gave even a little, it would help tremendously.

He says the mail carriers travel the community every day and saw a need that they could try and meet.

The Hopkinsville-Christian County food drive has historically collected between 3,000 to 5,000 pounds of food during the event, although Brand says he would love to see the record of 7,200 pounds broken this year. Participants can also drop off food at the post office located by the Hopkinsville Police Department.
