Area students chosen as Governor’s Scholars

Several area high school students have been chosen for the prestigious Governor’s Scholars program.

Hopkinsville High School junior Jaylon Taggart is the only student in Christian County to be selected for the Governor’s Scholars program and for the Governor’s School for the Arts. Taggart was selected to the school for the arts for his work on the tuba.  Alex Pritchett of Christian County High School and Jared Chance-Martin are alternates for musical performance.

The Christian County Public School system’s other Governor’s Scholars are Mary Campbell, Hannah Croom, Greer Givens, Bryce Hanson, Lauren Langhi, Ashlyn Montgomery, Cameron Poland, Garrett Pyle, Bryce Robinson, John Schmitt, Abeni Thomas and Hutchinson Williams.

Savannah Barnes, Shahil Desai, McKay Dunn, Isabel Keys and William Rye are listed as alternates.

Heritage Christian Academy junior Will Groves and Todd County Central High School junior Willem Azzinaro have been selected as Governor’s Scholars. University Heights Academy juniors Jackson Cotthoff, Roma Desai, and Kevli Sheth have also been chosen.

The Governor’s Scholars Program is a summer residential program for outstanding high school students in Kentucky who are rising seniors. Students who are selected for this prestigious program attend the five-week summer residential program without charge. The program’s mission is to enhance Kentucky’s next generation of civic and economic leaders.
